Maiya Redding

Maiya Redding was raised in Chicago, Illinois, and now is a full time resident of New York City. She graduated from SUNY Purchase College in 2016 receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance. During the first semester of her Junior year in college she studied abroad at The Korean National University of Arts (K-Arts) in Seoul, South Korea. Recently she reset her work "Breaking through the Generational Curse" on Alessandra Corona Performing Works and also set another work "Chicago Luvin" on Dance Lab NY. In addition she created and choreographed her films titled "The Evolution of Womb(man)hood" and "Letters to Medusa". In 2022 Maiya received a Master’s in Fine Arts degree in Dance from Hunter College. While attending Hunter, she was afforded the opportunity to work as an Adjunct Lecturer and Ballet Professor for the undergraduate students. Post graduation she is continuing to teach at Hunter, American Youth Dance Theater, and also has assumed the position of Adjunct Professor for Hofstra University and choreographed her works “Faith is Calling”(2022) and reconstructed her work "Rely on Time to... (2024). During the summer of 2023 she was selected by The University of North Carolina School of the Arts to be one the choreographers for the Choreographic Institute Residency Program, where she originally set her work, “Rely on Time to…”. In fall 2024 she assumed the position as adjunct lecturer at Montclair State University teaching Ballet. In 2024 she created her film "Home" for the dance program at Hunter College and also premiered her work "Bright Lies, Dark Truths" at Arts on Site and the La MaMa Theater. As a choreographer and educator, Maiya's intention is to show the audience and her students the beauty of artistry and introduce them into a new reality.
